Patola Sarees
It all began in the 12th century, when the Salvis moved to Patan from the nearby states of Gujarat. They made the most interesting sarees out of silk that were dyed in bright colours and had unique patterns that made them stand out. Once upon a time, these beautiful sarees were worn by royalty and were a sign of social status. In the past, patola sari cost a lot because it had a long history and only a few people could afford it.
Even now, only a few families in Patan still do this beautiful art, which shows that it has a long history. Because dying takes so long, it takes about 6 months to a year to make a saree. These sarees are also called double ikat woven sarees, and the family says that they are very expensive. In Indonesia, these sarees are very valuable and have become a part of the culture there. The art made by the Salvi people is well-known.
Abstract Motifs and Unique Patterns
On the saree, there are designs of elephants, peacocks, and parrots, among other animals. Bright colours like red, orange, yellow, indigo blue, and white are often used to make these sarees. These patola silk sarees are unique and very popular because of how beautifully they are designed. Making patola silk sarees is a tedious job that takes a lot of hands, but there aren't enough of those hands.
Styling pure patola silk saree
Traditional silver jewellery would look great with these beautiful sarees. Gold jewellery is another option. People often choose stone or even pearl jewellery these days.
These banarasi patola saree can be worn with blouses that go well with them. With a full-sleeved blouse, the beautiful saree would look great. To get that grand look, a saree can also be worn with a belt or a traditional potli purse.
Many people like to wear printed patola saris these days. The brightly coloured silk sarees stand out because they have bright designs on them. Today, famous people and celebrities wear printed patola saree with pride because they are soft and easy to wear.
Patola sarees online come in three styles
Patan Patola Saree: This is the most well-known kind, and most Indian women wear it. The resist dyeing on the Patan patola saree is done horizontally. It is the most popular type of original patan patola saree and is chosen to wear by a lot of people. This provides the patola saree with the unique feature of reversibility. It is also resist-dyed horizontally. On the other hand, the Rajkot Patola saree is manufactured using the single ikat method and is resist-dyed vertically.
Banarasi Patola Saree: This is a one-of-a-kind combination of banarasi saree and patan patola. Banarasi patola saree is one of the best things ever made. It has a patola pattern, a wide border, and a lot of work on the pallu.
Rajkot Patola Saree: The difference is in how it is woven. This rajkoti patola saree has resist dyeing going up and down.
How to keep your Patola Sarees in good shape?
- The best way to clean your patola silk sarees is to dry clean them.
- If you are washing your beautiful patola silk saree at home, make sure to dip them in cold water for a few minutes before hanging them up to dry.
- Do not use soap or detergent for the first wash.
- Putting them in a dark corner can help keep your saree from getting dirty. Do not hang the sarees or hangers or leave them in dirty places.
- Carefully iron the saree on a low setting or have it steam-ironed.
- Professional dry cleaning is a much better idea than trying to clean these expensive sarees at home.
- Keep the patan patola saree in a saree bag or muslin bag at all times.
